# Bulk Edit

Learn how to use Bulk Edit in Daylite to change the same field across multiple records at once to save time and tackle scenarios that support it

Bulk Edit in Daylite changes the same field on many records in one action. You can apply a Category to fifty Contacts, reassign a set of Opportunities to another team member, or fix a field that an import filled in incorrectly — without opening each record individually. Bulk Edit is available in Daylite on Mac only.

**Key facts:**

* Access Bulk Edit via **Edit > Bulk Edit**
* Bulk Edit is available on Mac only — not on iPhone or iPad
* You edit one record type at a time — you cannot select a mix of People and Opportunities
* Only the fields you check are changed; everything you leave unchecked is untouched
* The value you set replaces the existing value on every selected record except in cases of multi-value fields such as Keywords where it adds to them
* Changes apply immediately and sync to all devices — there is no undo

## Before You Start

{% hint style="danger" %}
**Bulk Edit has no undo.** Check your selection before you click **Apply** — the number of records selected is shown at the bottom of the list. If you are unsure, run the edit on two or three records first and confirm the result
{% endhint %}

The safest approach is to build the list first and edit second. A Smart List or a search result gives you exactly the records that meet your criteria, so your selection is deliberate rather than whatever happened to be on screen.

## How Do You Apply a Bulk Edit in Daylite?

1. Open a list of the record type you want to edit, such as a filtered or Smart List, a personal view, or an unfiltered list like **All People**.
2. Select the records: Shift-click for a range, Command-click for individual records, or press **⌘A** for everything in the list.
3. Confirm the count at the bottom of the list.
4. Go to **Edit > Bulk Edit.**
5. Select the checkbox beside each field you want to change, then set its new value.
6. Click **Apply**.

Bulk Edit requires two or more records selected. To change a single record, open it and edit it directly.

{% hint style="info" icon="lightbulb" %}
**Tip:** Switch to multi-column list view to see many records and their field values side by side while you select. Go to **View > Multi-Column List**.
{% endhint %}

Daylite is unavailable while a Bulk Edit runs, and large edits can take a while. Run big changes in batches, or at a time when you do not need Daylite.

The fields offered in the Bulk Edit window depend on the record type you selected.

## When to Use Bulk Edit in Daylite?

Bulk Edit is designed for applying the same change across many records at once. It is not designed for every editing scenario — the table below shows what it handles and where you need a different approach.

No. Bulk Edit is available in Daylite on Mac only. Changes made on a Mac sync to iPhone and iPad through Daylite Cloud.

No. There is no undo for Bulk Edit. To fix a wrong value, select the same records again and run a second Bulk Edit with the correct value.

No. Only checked fields are written. Everything else on the record stays as it was.

**Can I Bulk Edit records of different types at once?**

No. Bulk Edit works on one record type at a time. The fields available in the Bulk Edit window depend on the type of record you have selected.

**Does Bulk Edit add to a field or replace what is there?**

The value you set replaces the existing value on the selected records except for multi-value fields such as Keywords where Bulk Edit adds to it.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.daylite.app/help/mac-fundamentals/tools-and-utilities/bulk-edit.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
