# Contextual Menu

Customize the actions that appear when you secondary click records in Daylite.

The **Contextual Menu** settings pane lets you customize the menu that appears when you secondary-click or control-click a record in Daylite. You can customize the menu for each type of record — so the commands you use most on a Person, Company, or Opportunity are one click away, and the ones you never touch are out of the way. It sits under **Personal** in Settings, so your customizations apply only to the user you are logged in as.

**Key facts:**

* Contextual Menu is a **Personal** setting: your customizations affect only your own login.
* Find it at **Daylite > Settings > Contextual Menu**.
* Each record type is customized separately using the tabs across the top.
* You can restore the original menu at any time with **Reset to Default**.

## What's in the Contextual Menu pane

<figure><img src="https://3475717408-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F6oVSyjL3UowOqokog3Vn%2Fuploads%2F1g6cCFL69bUwz0hCwyy0%2FDaylite%20Settings%20-%20Contextual%20Menu%20with%20callouts.png?alt=media&amp;token=06e70266-efec-4fd1-ab9e-e4ac01c844fd" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

1. **Record type tabs:** Along the top are tabs for each Daylite record type — Person, Company, Project, Opportunity, Group, Task, Appointment, Note, Email, and Forms. Select a tab to customize the right-click menu for that record type.
2. **Available menu items:** The left column lists every action you can add, each with a short description of what it does — for example, *Add Keyword* ("Add a keyword to the selected people"), *Category*, *Link to…*, *Export as vCard*, and the Merge Using options to generate personalized emails or letters.
3. **Menu:** The right column is the menu as it will actually appear when you right-click that record type — for the Person tab, this is the **Person menu**.
4. **Reset to Default:**&#x52;estores the menu for the selected record type to how it was when Daylite was first installed.
5. **Add Separator:** Inserts a divider line into the menu so you can group related commands visually.

## How to Customize a Contextual Menu

1. Go to **Daylite > Settings > Contextual Menu**.
2. Click the tab for the record type you want to customize (Person, Company, Opportunity, and so on).
3. To add a command, **double-click** an item in the Available menu items list, or **drag** it into the menu list on the right.
4. To insert a divider, click **Add Separator**.
5. To remove a command, select it in the right-hand menu list and press **Delete** — it returns to the Available list.
6. To start over, click **Reset to Default**.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Tip:** Customize the record types you act on most — usually Person and Company. Put the commands you run daily (like Add Keyword, Category, or Write Email) near the top, and use separators to group them so the menu reads at a glance.
{% endhint %}

The shortcut menu provides quick access to actions for the selected record. Each record type has its own menu, which can be customized in **Contextual Menu** settings.

**Available for** identifies the record you select, rather than the type of record the command creates.

## Frequently Asked Questions

**Do my contextual menu changes affect my teammates?**

No. Contextual Menu is a Personal setting — it only changes the right-click menus for the account you're logged in as.

**Can I customize the menu differently for each record type?**

Yes. Each record type — Person, Company, Project, Opportunity, Group, Task, Appointment, Note, Email, Forms — has its own tab and its own menu.

**How do I remove an item I added?**

Select it in the right-hand menu list and press Delete. It moves back to the Available menu items list and is removed from the right-click menu.

**How do I get the original menu back?**

Click **Reset to Default** for that record type to restore the menu Daylite shipped with.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.daylite.app/help/mac-fundamentals/settings/mac-settings/personal/contextual-menu.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
