# Export Your Data to a CSV or TSV File

Export contacts, companies, projects, tasks, appointments, notes, and other Daylite records to a CSV or TSV file that you can open in Numbers, Excel, or other tools

You can export records from Daylite to a CSV or TSV file, then open the file in spreadsheet apps like Numbers or Excel. This is useful when you want to sort or filter your data, create reports, share a contact list, or import your data into another system.

Before exporting, use filters and Smart Lists to narrow down the records you see. This makes it easier to export only the records you want to work with. Learn how to use filters and Smart Lists.

### Export visible columns and selected records

1. In the Daylite sidebar, select the view that contains the records you want to export, such as People, Companies, All Projects, My Projects, All Tasks, Groups, Appointments, or Notes.
2. Choose View > Multi-Column List.
3. Adjust the columns you want to include in the export:
   * Control-click a column header to show or hide columns.
   * Drag column headers to reorder them.
4. Select the records you want to export.
5. Choose File > Export > Export Visible Columns and Selected Rows to File.
6. Enter a name for the file.
7. Choose where to save the file.
8. Select an export format:
   * CSV (Comma Delimited)
   * Tab Delimited
9. Click Save.

{% hint style="info" %}
After selecting your columns and records, you can press Command-C to copy the data. Then paste it into Numbers or Excel to work with the content right away. No export needed.
{% endhint %}

### Export only certain records

To export only certain records, use filters or a Smart List before exporting. For example, you can create a Smart List of specific people, companies, tasks, projects, or opportunities, then export only those results.

### Export your entire database

These steps export the available visible columns and selected rows from the current list. To export the entire database instead, see [Export All Database Tables to CSV](https://docs.daylite.app/help/center/account-settings/export-all-database-tables-to-csv)

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.daylite.app/help/center/export-your-data-to-a-csv-or-tsv-file.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
